A man in his 30s who was put on trial for killing his father after enduring domestic violence has been sentenced to six years in prison in the first trial.
The Criminal Division 12 of the Seoul Western District Court (Chief Judge Choi Jeongin) sentenced Lee (34), who was indicted on charges of parricide, to six years in prison on May 12.
The court stated, "The defendant's crime of killing a direct ascendant is by no means light," but also noted, "We took into account that the defendant committed the crime impulsively, has admitted to it, and is showing remorse."
Lee was put on trial on charges of killing his father, who verbally abused his mother and demanded money for alcohol, at a multi-family residence in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul in October last year.
