Establishment of Disaster Industry Promotion Facility Specializing in Landslides... 14 Billion KRW Support

Disaster Technology Testing for Steep Slopes and Landslides
Expected to Generate Economic Effects of Approximately 216.4 Billion KRW

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety, together with the Busan Metropolitan Government, will invest 14 billion KRW to establish a disaster safety industry promotion facility specializing in steep slopes and landslides.

On May 12, the ministry announced that, as a result of this year's "Support Project for the Establishment of Disaster Safety Industry Promotion Facilities (R&D)" public offering, it had selected the "Disaster Safety Industry Promotion Facility Specializing in Steep Slopes and Landslides," jointly applied for by Busan City and Busan Technopark. To establish this promotion facility, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Busan City will jointly invest a total of 14 billion KRW over three years until 2027.

The promotion facility is designed to enhance the efficiency of the disaster safety industry and to attract or nurture businesses in related fields. Through cooperation among industry, academia, research institutes, and government, the facility will test the performance of specialized products and technologies for each type of disaster, support research and development, and help open domestic and overseas markets. Previously, in 2023, a flood-specialized promotion facility was selected in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province; last year, an earthquake-specialized facility in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province; and a fire-specialized facility in Hongseong, South Chungcheong Province.

The newly selected promotion facility specializing in steep slopes and landslides will be established in Saha District, Busan, and will be able to accommodate 27 companies. It will be equipped with 11 types of equipment, including simulation equipment related to the field and a rockfall protection net tensile tester. Through this, disaster safety technologies and products aimed at reducing slope disasters will be tested and evaluated. In connection with Busan City's strategic industries, the facility will also support the development of technologies and products linked to artificial intelligence (AI) and big data.

Busan City and Busan Technopark expect that the establishment of the promotion facility will create 1,725 specialized jobs and generate approximately 216.4 billion KRW in direct and indirect economic effects.

Lee Hankyung, Director-General of Disaster and Safety Management at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, stated, "We will strive to vitalize the promotion facility so that it can take the lead in spreading the supply of technologies and products that protect public safety."
