Representative Kim, who represents the constituency of Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gokseong, and Gurye in South Jeolla Province, is a first-term lawmaker from the Democratic Party. On March 11, he, along with fellow Democratic Party members Park Hongbae and Jeon Jinsook, staged a head-shaving protest urging the Constitutional Court to swiftly remove then-President Yoon Sukyeol from office. He shares the same name as Kim Moonsoo, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, who opposed the impeachment of former President Yoon.
The released video shows Representative Kim personally using pruning shears and other tools to remove banners posted throughout the area. Supporters who saw this reacted by saying, "Please change your Facebook display name to 'Kim Moonsoo of the Democratic Party'," "It's nice that your name is now known nationwide, but unexpected situations like this can occur," and "There are quite a few politicians with the same name, like Kim Sungtae and Park Junghyun."
In a phone interview with the Hankyoreh on this day, Representative Kim said, "Since Kim Moonsoo has been confirmed as the People Power Party's presidential candidate, it ended up looking like I was campaigning for Kim Moonsoo under my own name. Some party members and seniors have told me, 'Kim Moonsoo banners are already up,' and some people said they were confused or didn't feel good about it, so I thought I should quickly take down at least the most visible banners."
Meanwhile, on the 11th, candidate Kim completed his registration as a presidential candidate with the National Election Commission. Previously, Kim had clashed with the People Power Party leadership over the issue of replacing the candidate, but on the previous day, his status as the party's presidential candidate was restored after a vote among all party members rejected the proposal to replace him with Han Ducksoo.
