"The United Nations and Global Governance"
Lecture on the Theme from the Perspective of the President of the UN General Assembly
Jinju City, South Gyeongsang Province, announced on the 12th that it held a training session for civil servants, inviting former Prime Minister Han Seungsoo. The event took place in the Citizens’ Hall on the second floor of City Hall, with around 200 public officials including bureau and department heads in attendance.
The training was conducted under the theme "The United Nations and Global Governance: Perspectives from the President of the UN General Assembly" to enhance public officials' international awareness and understanding of governance.
Han Seungsoo, who took the podium that day, is a global expert in diplomacy and policy, having served in key national positions such as the 39th Prime Minister, President of the 56th UN General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economy. He is currently active on the international stage as the Chair of the United Nations General Assembly Presidents' Council (UNCPGA).
During his lecture, Han explained the functions and roles of the United Nations and major issues in global governance, drawing on his extensive experience and insight. In particular, he shared real-life examples from his time as President of the UN General Assembly, helping participants better understand international affairs.
During the Q&A session that followed, participants raised a variety of questions, including the direction of Korean diplomacy in the international community and responses to global environmental crises. Han responded sincerely and in depth, receiving an enthusiastic response from the audience.
Mayor Cho Kyuil, who attended the training, said, "It was a very meaningful opportunity to hear directly from the former Prime Minister, who has been at the forefront of international diplomacy," and added, "I hope this training will serve as a solid foundation for Jinju City officials to grow into policy leaders with a global perspective."
Meanwhile, Jinju City regularly invites experts from various fields to provide training sessions in order to strengthen the basic knowledge and policy capabilities of public officials.
