Jungnang District (District Mayor Ryu Kyunggi) has opened 'Jungnang Rose Cafe,' a waterside emotional terrace-style observation cafe at Jungnang Rose Garden.
This cafe, which offers views of both roses and the Jungnangcheon Stream, will officially begin operations in line with the opening of the 17th Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival on May 16. It is expected to provide a new space for relaxation and cultural experiences to both festival visitors and local residents.
Jungnang Rose Cafe is located at 344-1 Muk-dong, Jungnang District. The cafe is a two-story building with a total floor area of 351.29 square meters and accommodates 122 seats. The first floor will serve as a multipurpose space, hosting exhibitions and cultural activities in collaboration with local artists, in addition to operating as a cafe. The second floor consists of a terrace-style cafe with floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing visitors to enjoy views of the roses and the surrounding landscape. From the rooftop, guests can take in an unobstructed view of the Jungnangcheon Stream.
Until now, Jungnang Rose Park has been a popular destination due to its proximity to bicycle paths and walking trails, attracting many visitors throughout the year and especially during the Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival. However, there have been ongoing concerns regarding the lack of sufficient spaces for rest and cultural activities.
In response, the district, in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, has promoted the Riverside Vitality Hub Project, resulting in the creation of Jungnang Rose Cafe as an emotional relaxation space that connects everyday life with the festival.
The cafe will be open year-round from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. During the rose festival, various cultural events such as 'Surimdae Road Busking' and the 'Rose Night Movie Festival' will also be held at Surimdae Park in front of the cafe. Even outside the festival period, the space will serve as a complex cultural venue for local residents visiting Jungnangcheon Stream and Jungnang Rose Garden, featuring permanent exhibitions related to roses.
Ryu Kyunggi, Mayor of Jungnang District, stated, "We have created an observation cafe that blends culture and art at Jungnang Rose Garden, where Jungnangcheon and Muk-dongcheon meet. I hope that Jungnang Rose Cafe will become a beloved local landmark for both residents and visitors to the Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival, and that it will contribute to revitalizing the local economy."
The 17th Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival will be held for nine days from May 16 to 24, stretching from Mukdonggyo Bridge to Gyeomjaegyo Bridge along Jungnangcheon Stream, centering on the Jungnang Rose Park area. The festival will feature a 5.45-kilometer-long rose tunnel, as well as a variety of performances, exhibitions, and hands-on programs.
Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon and Jungnang District Mayor Ryu Kyunggi attended the opening ceremony of Jungnang Rose Cafe held on the 9th.
