Kim: "Even More Precious After Many Ups and Downs... I Will Give It My All"
On May 11, the People Power Party emphasized "unity and integration" at the first meeting of the 21st Presidential Election Central Election Countermeasures Committee.
Candidate Kim Moonsoo, holding his first campaign committee meeting at the National Assembly after regaining his candidacy, said, "This is an even more precious and meaningful moment because of all the ups and downs we have gone through." He continued, "This election is one of great unity that will save the Republic of Korea, revive the economy, and bring the people together." He added, "The People Power Party is a party with excellent capabilities and experience, and a clear vision for the future. I will do my utmost with everything I have. Although there are many difficulties, it is always important to remain united and to serve the people."
Floor Leader Kwon Seongdong recalled last year's impeachment crisis, saying, "I endured with the belief that division is more frightening than impeachment. Let us not be divided. Only unity and integration will lead us to victory." He continued, "It is our mission to restore to normal the functions of the state and politics, which have been distorted and paralyzed by Lee Jaemyung's parliamentary dictatorship. Now is not the time to be disappointed. We can pull off a dramatic comeback, like a bases-loaded home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. We must win."
Co-Chairman Ahn Cheolsoo said, "We now stand before a historic mission to unite as one and stop Lee Jaemyung." He called out to former Chairman Han Donghoon, who is known to have declined to join the campaign committee, saying, "Rather than staying at home, please join us in stopping Lee Jaemyung and defending liberal democracy and the Republic of Korea."
Co-Chairwoman Na Kyungwon, referring to Candidate Kim, said, "He is a precious child born after a difficult labor." She emphasized, "Let us all become one with Candidate Kim and work tirelessly day and night. Through greater unity and solidarity, the People Power Party will surely win."
Co-Chairwoman Yang Hyangja said, "If this presidential election becomes a contest between Yoon Sukyeol and Lee Jaemyung, we are doomed to defeat." She added, "We must solemnly apologize for the martial law, discard the remnants of the old era from the party, and innovate at the level of founding a new party."
Co-Chairman Hwang Woo-yea expressed his determination, saying, "We will definitely move forward with the attitude of 'seonseungimjeon' (winning before entering the battle)."
Except for the co-chairpersons, General Director Yoon Jaeok, and Unification Promotion Director Yoo Sangbeom (head of the Big Tent Promotion Team), the major appointments for the campaign committee, which have not yet been made, are scheduled to be finalized through the Emergency Committee's resolution on May 12.
The campaign committee, which includes a total of 35 members including Candidate Kim, will have Representative Lee Manhee as head of operations, Representative Jang Donghyuk as chief of the situation room, Representative Lee Heonseung as head of the campaign headquarters, Representative Kim Yongtae as head of the youth headquarters, and Yeouido Institute Director Yoon Heesook as head of policy development.
