"Emergency Committee's Unilateral Actions, Floor Leader Also Responsible"
"Unification Falls Through, Only Wounds Remain"
Rep. Hyeonjin Bae of the People Power Party called for the simultaneous resignation of Kwon Youngse and Kwon Seongdong in connection with the recent attempt within the party to replace the presidential candidate.
On May 11, Rep. Bae wrote on Facebook, "The party leadership's arrogant and reckless management, as if saying 'What are you going to do about it?', has caused great confusion," adding, "The members' hopes for unification have also been shattered." She continued, "In the end, both Candidate Kim and Candidate Han have become victims of the emergency response committee," and emphasized, "The biggest victims are the party members and supporters."
Rep. Hyeonjin Bae of the People Power Party strongly criticized the emergency response committee regarding the recent attempt to replace the party's presidential candidate and urged the parliamentary leadership to take responsibility.
She also stated, "This major incident cannot be the sole responsibility of Emergency Response Committee Chair Kwon Youngse," and pointed out that even if the parliamentary leadership had no role during the presidential election period, Floor Leader Kwon Seongdong cannot be free from responsibility either. She added, "The first step toward unity and victory is for the arrogant to bow their heads and reflect before the party members."
On May 10, Rep. Bae also posted a series of messages criticizing the emergency response committee's candidate nomination process. She expressed her anger, saying, "In the early morning when everyone was asleep, the emergency committee unilaterally canceled the candidate who had been selected through the primary and hastily nominated another candidate. This behavior must be reset to square one. Why did we spend billions of won on the primary? Was it just a wordplay circus?"
Regarding former Prime Minister Han Deoksoo, who completed the process of joining the party and registering as a candidate to run as the People Power Party's candidate, saying, "I will embrace everyone," and "If it is to win, I will become Kim Deoksoo (Kim Moonsoo + Han Deoksoo), Hong Deoksoo (Hong Junpyo + Han Deoksoo), An Deoksoo (Ahn Cheolsoo + Han Deoksoo), or Na Deoksoo (Na Kyungwon + Han Deoksoo), any Deoksoo," Rep. Bae emphasized, "It is not about Han Deoksoo, Na Deoksoo, or Hong Deoksoo; what matters is a fair start without foul play."
She further argued, "Using any means necessary to achieve one's goal is a tactic used by the far-left," and stressed, "Procedural legitimacy is a fundamental value of a conservative party."
On May 10, the People Power Party rejected the proposal to replace candidate Kim Moonsoo with Han Deoksoo in a vote of all party members, and as a result, candidate Kim regained his status as the presidential candidate. The "simultaneous resignation of Kwon Youngse and Kwon Seongdong" theory, which led the candidate replacement movement, erupted in response.
