A Variety of Family Activity Spaces to Enjoy
The city of Busan will host the 19th Busan Family Festival on May 17 at Dasom Madang in Busan Citizens Park.
This festival, which began in 2007 and marks its 19th edition this year, has been organized in celebration of Family Month for all families in Busan. It is designed as a signature venue for family play experiences, where everyone can share in the love for family and family policies, and people of all ages can participate.
The event is hosted by the city and organized by the Busan Healthy Family Support Center along with 12 district and county Healthy Family and Family Centers. Around 10,000 families from Busan are expected to take part.
This year’s festival is themed “Today in May, Every Family Shines!” and invites all Busan families to come together and shine in their own way. The event will feature stage performances, family experience zones, and family exhibition spaces.
On stage, the Saha-gu Family Center’s “Dreaming Ao Dai Dance Troupe” and the Dong-gu Family Center’s “Busan Multicultural Harmony Choir” will perform a traditional Vietnamese dance and a choral rendition of the Busan anthem, respectively. In addition, awards will be presented to outstanding contributors in celebration of Family Month and Couple’s Day.
There will be 30 different experience programs across three zones, each themed around a family value: “Equality Together,” “Care Together,” and “Inclusion for All.”
The “Equality Together Zone” will feature 10 experience booths centered on equality, such as the “Gender Equality Super Stone Curling Game” and the “Equality Arcade Basketball Game,” where families can enjoy activities that promote the value of equality. The “Care Together Zone” will offer 10 booths where families can experience the value of care, including “A Piece of Care, Our Family Puzzle” and “The Power of Care Shared Through Pin Buttons.” The “Inclusion for All Zone” will provide 10 booths focused on the value of inclusion, such as “Back in My Day (Traditional Play Experience)” and “Beat the Drum of Inclusion,” where participants can respect each other's differences and foster a more inclusive society.
For the family exhibition, the Dasom Gallery in Dasom Hall will host events under the theme “Our Family Shines,” including a performance titled “The Snail Girl’s Kick,” a book talk with author Hwang Seon-ae, and an exhibition of artworks from the “Our Family Is Special” family art contest.
In addition, those who register in advance can participate in activities such as “Our Family’s Pet Robot!”?a workshop to build a quadruped walking dog robot using the Internet of Things?and family counseling sessions.
The festival can be enjoyed not only at Busan Citizens Park but also online through the official Busan Family Festival website until May 25.
There are 12 online family experience activities available, including the “Joyful Dad Parenting Photo Contest,” “Dear My Care Hero,” and “What Does Inclusion Mean to Our Family?”
Other events include the “Chatter Chatter Word-of-Mouth Event” (until May 16), where participants share promotional materials for the Busan Family Festival; “The Moment Our Family Shines,” which encourages families to share special moments; and “The Shining Value of Our Family,” which helps families discover their most cherished values.

Mayor Park Hyungjoon stated, “When families are happy, learning is exciting, work is enjoyable, and Busan is happy. Together with all Busan families, I will strive to make Busan a city where people want to live, even if they were born again. I hope all families have a sparkling and special time together during Family Month.”
