Kim Moonsoo Registers as Candidate with Election Commission
Han Ducksoo Says, "I Will Do My Best to Support Him"
Kim Moonsoo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, officially registered as a presidential candidate with the National Election Commission on the 11th after a series of twists and turns. He faced the risk of being replaced as the party's presidential candidate, but after the proposal for candidate replacement was rejected in a full party member vote, he retained his candidacy and was able to run in the presidential election.
Kim completed his registration at the National Election Commission in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province. Regarding his feelings about registering as a candidate, he said, "This is an election to choose an important president who can overcome the crisis facing the Republic of Korea and work for the happiness of the people," and promised, "I will do my utmost to be elected and make Korea a great nation."
He expressed his gratitude to party members for restoring his candidacy through a party member vote after his nomination had been canceled. Kim said, "Usually, party member votes result in more votes in favor, so it is unusual that there were more votes against," and added, "Despite the strong influence of the parliamentary caucus, the emergency committee, and the leadership, I am grateful to the party members who overcame this and upheld democracy." He continued, "I trust the party members who made the right choice, and I believe the public sentiment is the same." He went on to say, "I believe that, no matter what lies we face, we have the unity, awakening, and capacity to overcome them," adding, "Hand in hand with party members, I will serve the people and march forward powerfully until the day of free unification of our great nation."
Regarding his relationship with Han Ducksoo, the former Prime Minister who was also considered as a potential People Power Party presidential candidate, Kim said, "I will do my best to bring him on board so that the public can be reassured and we can solve the many difficulties facing our country."
On Kwon Youngse, the former emergency committee chair of the People Power Party who attempted an unprecedented forced candidate replacement in party history, Kim said, "It has been customary for the emergency committee chair to resign once a candidate is selected, but this time that did not happen," adding, "I will discuss this matter with the party." He also expressed his gratitude, saying, "I thank the emergency committee chair for his efforts so far."
Regarding the resolution of internal party conflict, he said, "Chairman Kwon has resigned," and added, "Rather than seeking accountability, with the election just around the corner, I believe it is more important to unite, broaden our party, integrate the public through a big tent, and reflect the will of the people."
