Han Donghoon: "No Future Without Eradicating Pro-Yoon Faction... Those Responsible Must Resign"

"Party Members Blocked the Pro-Yoon Coup"

Former People Power Party leader Han Donghoon directly criticized the party leadership after the party members' vote to change the presidential candidate was rejected, saying, "All those who drove the party to this state, regardless of their titles, must immediately resign and take proper responsibility."

On May 11, Han wrote on Facebook, "In the end, the party members themselves blocked the pro-Yoon faction's internal coup, but the party has already suffered deep wounds and the members have been insulted."

He added, "If we do not eradicate the outdated pro-Yoon politics, our party has no future," and pointed out, "Our party should no longer be the party of former President Yoon Sukyeol and Kim Keonhee."

Lawmakers aligned with Han also called for the resignation of the floor leadership, including Floor Leader Kwon Seongdong.

Sixteen lawmakers from the pro-Han faction issued a statement, saying, "It is difficult to fulfill responsibility solely with the resignation of Interim Chairman Kwon Youngse," and urged, "We call for the simultaneous resignation of Floor Leader Kwon Seongdong and the floor leadership, who have been deeply involved in this situation."

They continued, "Through these measures, we strongly urge the restoration of the party's democratic order, which has been thrown into disarray, and the rebuilding of a foundation to win the presidential election, which is now just 24 days away," emphasizing, "Our party must now quickly reorganize and focus all efforts on the presidential election, which is just 24 days ahead."

The People Power Party leadership canceled the candidacy of presidential candidate Kim Moonsoo on May 10 and held a party-wide vote to select former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo as the new candidate, but the motion was rejected. As a result, Kim's candidacy was immediately restored, and Interim Chairman Kwon Youngse announced his intention to resign.
