According to Koryoin Village on May 10, Chae Sunhwa, branch manager of the Union Branch of Eins Financial Service, donated 500,000 won to cover Mr. Jang's hospital expenses in honor of Parents' Day. Chae expressed her warm wishes, saying, "I hope this can bring even a small amount of hope to those who are suffering in a foreign land, far from their homeland."
Jang Pyotor became a refugee after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, and with support for airfare from Koryoin Village, he managed to enter Korea with great difficulty. However, just one month after arriving, his chronic diabetes worsened, making kidney dialysis inevitable, and he is currently hospitalized at a nearby convalescent hospital. His monthly hospital fees alone amount to 800,000 won, but with only one nephew to rely on in Korea, he is struggling even to cover his living expenses.
The relationship between Chae Sunhwa and Koryoin Village dates back to 2015. After learning about the lives of descendants of independence activists at that time, she visited the village in person and has continued her support ever since. Her acts of sharing have continued for nearly ten years, including providing snacks for daycare centers, supporting senior welfare centers, and awarding scholarships to university students.
Shin Joya, head of Koryoin Village, said, "The number of refugees like Mr. Jang, who are struggling both with medical treatment and daily living, is steadily increasing," and added, "The warm interest and support of neighbors are becoming a real lifeline for them."
