Hearing Scheduled by Court That Dismissed Injunction to Recognize Status as Presidential Candidate
The hearing for the injunction filed by Kim Moonsoo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, against the party's cancellation of his candidacy will be held at 5:00 p.m. on May 10.
The 51st Civil Division of the Seoul Southern District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Kwon Seongsu, will hold a hearing at 5:00 p.m. on the injunction request filed by candidate Kim to suspend the effect of the party's cancellation of his presidential candidacy.
The court had previously dismissed Kim's request for an injunction to recognize his status as a presidential candidate the day before. Despite the case being filed over the weekend, the court unusually scheduled the hearing in a swift manner.
On the morning of May 10, the People Power Party held meetings of its Emergency Response Committee and Election Management Committee, passed the agenda to cancel Kim's candidacy, and is proceeding with the process of replacing him with candidate Han Ducksoo through a vote of all party members and the National Committee. In response, Kim stated, "The Emergency Response Committee has unlawfully deprived me, Kim Moonsoo, who was legitimately elected with the support of the people and party members, of my qualification as the presidential candidate," and filed for an injunction.
