Kim Moonsoo's Side Files Injunction to Suspend Cancellation of Candidacy in Court

Kim Moonsoo: "A Political Coup in the Dead of Night... Will Respond Legally and Politically"

On May 10, Kim Moonsoo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, filed an injunction with the court seeking to cancel and suspend the effect of the party leadership's decision to revoke his candidacy and nominate former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo.

Kim's campaign announced to the press that "(Kim's side) submitted an application for an injunction to suspend the effect of the cancellation of the People Power Party's 21st presidential candidate selection to the Seoul Southern District Court at 12:35 p.m. today."

Previously, on the day before, Kim's camp and Han's camp held negotiations at the National Assembly to unify their candidacies, but they clashed sharply over a provision intended to prevent strategic voting in opinion polls.

After the negotiations between the two sides broke down, the People Power Party convened both an emergency response committee and an election management committee, stripped Kim of his status as the presidential candidate, nominated former Prime Minister Han as the new candidate, and is proceeding with the process of replacing Kim with Han Ducksoo through a full party vote and a national committee meeting.

In response, Kim held an emergency press conference at his campaign office in Yeouido, Seoul, on the morning of May 10, declaring, "A political coup took place in the dead of night," and announced that he would respond both legally and politically.
