On May 10, Gokseong County (Governor Cho Sangrae) announced that it had signed an implementation agreement with the Gokseong Office of Education (Superintendent Noh Myungsook) for the 'Gokseong Middle School Complex Facility Construction Project' on May 8 at the Daetongmaru Hall of the county office, with about 20 officials from the county and the office of education attending, to create a shared leisure and educational space for local residents and students.
After being selected for the school complex facility construction project in a public contest in September 2023, the county and the office of education completed a local finance impact assessment, a fiscal investment review, and preliminary planning. In addition, to ensure smooth progress of the project, they formed a working-level consultative body and have been continuously discussing matters related to space composition and operation.
As a result, the current agreement stipulates matters such as ownership of the school complex facility, the entities responsible for construction and operation, the sharing of project costs, as well as the scope of obligations and responsibilities of each institution. Both parties agreed to maintain an organic cooperative system to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
Governor Cho Sangrae stated, "I hope that the 'Gokseong Middle School Complex Facility Construction Project,' which is taking its first step today, will become a beloved and healthy leisure space for local residents."
Meanwhile, the 'Gokseong Middle School Complex Facility Construction Project' has a total project cost of 12.9 billion won, with 6.6 billion won funded by the national government and 6.3 billion won by the county. The Office of Education will provide the site, while Gokseong County will be responsible for construction and operation. The facility is expected to include a parking lot, a bowling alley, a cultural and sports room, a multipurpose room, and a tennis court.
