Jeonnam Province announced on May 10 that it has been selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "2025 Gohyang Ollae Project" for the third consecutive year.

The Gohyang Ollae Project was launched by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in 2023 to proactively address the risk of local extinction due to population decline and to revitalize regional economies by attracting new residents.

The project consists of five areas: workcation, learncation, dual-region living, local study, and local venture. The total project budget is 21.2 billion won (10.6 billion won in special grants and 10.6 billion won in local funds).

As a result of this year's selection, among 12 projects nationwide, Jeonnam Province's Hampyeong-gun was chosen in the dual-region living category for its "Daedanhan Dongne, Daedong-myeon 5do2chon Platform" project.

This project aims to create a dual-region living hub by organically connecting Hampyeong Hyanggyo, Hojopmongga (which houses Korea's first philosophy school, Gibon School), and Wolsansa Temple in Daedong-myeon, Hampyeong. The goal is to integrate tradition, nature, and the humanities, linking history and creative thinking.

The main part of the project involves modernizing a 65-year-old traditional house located at 401-1, Wolsong-ri, Daedong-myeon, to provide comfortable accommodation for dual-region living experience visitors. A total of 2 billion won (50% special grants, 50% local funds) will be invested by 2026.

In particular, the "Daedanhan Dongne, Daedong-myeon 5do2chon Platform" project will feature unique local programs, including humanities lectures by philosopher Choi Jinseok, local exploration programs such as "Find the Golden Bat," and specialized experiences such as ceremonial food, smart farming, and insect farming.

To actively respond to the project application, Jeonnam Province held meetings between provincial and county departments and conducted preliminary site inspections from the application stage, encouraging active participation from provincial, county, and local residents, and thoroughly preparing for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's site inspections and presentations.

Kim Myungshin, Director of Population and Youth Immigration at Jeonnam Province, said, "With this year's selection, the dual-region living category has been chosen for three consecutive years, confirming Jeonnam's specialization in linking local resources with residential stays. We will do our utmost to increase the living population through dual-region living and, in the long term, encourage people to settle in Jeonnam."
