Two women have been indicted on charges of extorting more than 200 million won from YouTuber Jjuyang (real name Jeongwon Park) through threats.
According to legal sources on May 9, the Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (headed by Chief Prosecutor Choi Sunho) indicted A (in her 30s) and B (in her 20s) without detention on April 24 on charges of joint extortion under the Act on the Punishment of Violent Acts.
The two are accused of threatening the production staff of Jjuyang's YouTube channel from June 2021 to November 2022 and extorting a total of 216 million won. It was found that the PD of the Jjuyang channel delivered the money directly to the two women.
This case became known when Jjuyang disclosed the details in a YouTube video in July last year. In the video, Jjuyang said, "Three years ago, the CEO of my former agency (who was also my ex-boyfriend) mentioned these two women and said, '(The women) are making threats.' He suggested I pay them off with my own money, so the PD had to meet the two women on my behalf and ended up paying them 216 million won over about two years."
The investigation began in July of the same year when the PD filed a complaint. The police requested arrest warrants for A and others, but the court rejected the request. The prosecution then took over the case, conducted a supplementary investigation, and eventually indicted the two women.
