Busan Chamber of Commerce and Democratic Party Hold Business Issues Meeting... Request Pledges for Relocation of Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and KDB Headquarters to Busan

The Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Yang Jaesaeng) held a meeting with the Democratic Party's Future Economic Growth Strategy Committee and local business leaders on May 9 at the Charlotte Room of the Busan Lotte Hotel, requesting solutions to local economic issues and the inclusion of these matters in presidential campaign pledges to revitalize the regional economy.

The meeting was attended by Lee Eonju, Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party and Chair of the Future Economic Growth Strategy Committee; Kim Youngchun, Co-Chair of the Central Election Committee; and Byun Sungwan, Head of the Busan Gangseo-eul District Committee. From the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chairman Yang Jaesaeng participated along with 15 key business figures, including senior advisors Kang Byungjoong and Shin Jungtaek.

During the meeting, the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry delivered the "Busan Business Community Proposals" to Chair Lee Eonju, urging that major local issues be actively reflected in presidential pledges. These included the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan, the relocation of the Korea Development Bank headquarters to Busan, the supply of clean water to Busan, and the timely opening of the new airport on Gadeokdo Island.

The proposal book contains a total of 25 tasks, including five major infrastructure projects for the growth of the southern region as a practical hub city, five strategic tasks for advancing as a global maritime capital, nine policy tasks to boost corporate vitality, and six development tasks for advancing the industrial structure.

Chairman Yang Jaesaeng emphasized, "The regional economy is at a crossroads of survival due to the concentration of power in the capital region, economic stagnation, and a leadership vacuum. For Busan to rise as a maritime capital, the political sector must adopt feasible pledges such as the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Development Bank headquarters."

In response, Supreme Council Member Lee Eonju stated, "Busan is the world's second-largest transshipment port, and with changes in the shipping landscape such as the opening of the Arctic route, it could become number one globally. We will foster Busan as a global maritime capital and also promote the creation of a shipbuilding industry cluster in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region."

The Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry also expressed its intention to continue working closely with major political parties and government officials based on the proposal book, so that regional issues can be reflected as national policy tasks by the next administration.
