267 Billion KRW in National Funding and 4.48 Billion KRW in Provincial Funding Invested
Full-scale Promotion of Rural Regeneration in the Southwestern Region
Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province has been finally selected for the 2025 Rural Agreement public project hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
With this selection, Yangsan City plans to invest a total of 41.8 billion KRW, including 26.7 billion KRW in national funding, 4.48 billion KRW in provincial funding, and 10.48 billion KRW in municipal funding, to improve the quality of life in rural areas and promote balanced development.
The Rural Agreement is a national project in which the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and local governments sign an agreement to implement a package of region-specific rural space restructuring and expansion of living SOC (social overhead capital) projects.
The core of this project is to restore the functions of rural areas as places to live, work, and relax, and to prevent population outflow to nearby large cities. To achieve this, the project will strengthen functional linkages among the upper hub (Mulgeum-eup), mid- and lower-level hubs (Dong-myeon and Wondong-myeon), and surrounding villages, thereby promoting balanced development between urban and rural areas and encouraging the "4 Provinces 3 Villages" visitation initiative.
In particular, Yangsan City plans to organically link a total of 11 sub-projects, including the rural central area revitalization projects in Mulgeum-eup and Dong-myeon, the second phase of the basic living hub development project in Wondong-myeon, improvements to living conditions in vulnerable areas, rural tourism, and the development of region-specific content. Through these efforts, the city expects to lay the foundation for urban-rural coexistence and revitalize the local community.
This selection is evaluated as the result of Yangsan City's continued efforts in rural development projects and the establishment of spatial plans tailored to regional characteristics. By the end of the year, the city will complete various administrative procedures, establish a basic plan, and supplement the implementation plan. The full-scale project is scheduled to begin with the signing of the agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs around April 2026.
Mayor Na Dongyeon stated, "The selection for this Rural Agreement public project is the result of Yangsan City's efforts toward balanced regional development and rural regeneration," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure proactive administration and responsible implementation for the realization of a sustainable community where urban and rural areas grow and prosper together."
