Hampyeong County Selected for Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "Gohyang Olrae"... Residency Program to Be Established

Hampyeong County Selected for Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "Gohyang Olrae"... Residency Program to Be Established Perspective view of the community hub development plan.

On May 9, Hampyeong County in South Jeolla Province announced that it was the only region in South Jeolla to be selected for the final round of the "2025 Gohyang Olrae (GOHyang ALLRae)" public contest project organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The county secured a total project budget of 2 billion KRW by being selected for the Gohyang Olrae contest. Hampyeong plans to utilize a 65-year-old traditional house located in Wolsong-ri, Daedong-myeon to establish a community hub for residents by the end of 2026, and to operate residency programs centered on the humanities.

The residency programs will be centered around "Hojopmongga," which currently offers humanities lectures, and will leverage local cultural resources in Daedong-myeon, such as traditional food experiences (Maedong Forest) and pottery workshops (Jagibaragi), to provide visitors with experiences distinct from those found in urban areas.

In addition, based on positive residency experiences, such as operating small-scale communities and facilitating exchanges with local residents, the county aims to help visitors form bonds with the local community and increase the likelihood of their settling in the area.

County Governor Lee Sangik stated, "We hope that, through this project, Daedong-myeon will establish itself as a 'humanities village' where life and philosophy coexist," and added, "By attracting new residents, we will realize a sustainable model for regional revitalization."
