The official campaign period for the 6·3 presidential election will begin on May 12. During the official campaign period, voters are also allowed to participate in election campaigning.
The National Election Commission announced this in a press release on May 9.
According to the commission, voters may appeal for support for a particular party or candidate by word of mouth or by phone, except on election day. Election campaigning using the internet, email, text messages, or social networking services (SNS) is allowed at all times, including on election day. However, it is prohibited to produce, edit, distribute, screen, or post deepfake videos. Sharing or disseminating posts via SNS that contain slander against candidates or false information may violate the law.
In addition, voters may create or purchase campaign props within 25 cm in length, width, or height at their own expense to participate in election campaigning. They may also serve as volunteers for candidates. However, volunteers are not allowed to request any compensation or remuneration.
Candidates themselves are also permitted to engage in official election campaigning. The commission stated, "Candidates, as well as campaign managers, liaison office heads, campaign staff, or persons designated by the candidate from among those eligible to campaign, may deliver speeches and participate in discussions at public venues from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m."
