On the 8th, Icheon City held the "Summer Natural Disaster Preparedness Meeting with Related Agencies," presided over by Mayor Kim. The meeting was attended by officials from relevant city departments, Icheon Police Station, Icheon Fire Station, the Army's 5779th Unit, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Korea Rural Community Corporation, and members of the Icheon City Community Disaster Prevention Corps.
During the meeting, the joint response system between the public sector, private sector, and military was reviewed in preparation for summer disasters. The agenda included the weather outlook, key preemptive response measures, and matters requiring cooperation. Based on the discussions, the city plans to establish countermeasures and fully commit to disaster response during the five-month period from May 15 to October 15.
Key measures discussed included dredging drainage channels and rivers at risk of flooding, maintenance of catch basins, pre-inspection of landslide-prone areas and semi-basement (low-lying) residential neighborhoods, and one-on-one matching of private sector assistants with priority evacuation targets such as disaster-vulnerable groups.
In addition, the city will operate a 24-hour situation management center during the countermeasure period to maintain a rapid response system. The city also plans to effectively promote citizen safety guidelines through disaster alert text messages, electronic display boards, early warning systems, and safety campaigns.
Mayor Kim stated, "This summer, due to abnormal weather patterns, we expect frequent heavy rains and an increase in the number of extremely hot days," and urged, "Relevant departments and local administrative units should ensure they are fully prepared for practical disaster response and do their utmost for preemptive prevention."
