Completion Ceremony to Be Held on the 9th, Contributing to the Expansion of a Stable Hydrogen Supply Network in Korea
Daily Supply of 43 Tons of Hydrogen, Enough to Charge About 8,500 Nexo Vehicles
The Ulsan city government announced that on the morning of May 9 at 10:00 a.m., Capro would hold a completion ceremony for the 'largest hydrogen shipment center in Korea' at the site of Capro Plant 3 within the Onsan National Industrial Complex in Nam-gu.
The event will be attended by Kim Dukyum, Mayor of Ulsan, Lee Sungyong, Chairman of the Ulsan City Council, Lee Sanggi, Chairman of the Nam-gu Council, as well as Choi Wonho, Chairman of Taehwa Group, Park Sungmyung, CEO of Capro, Seo Jungwook, Vice Chairman of the Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cho Youngshin, Director of Ulsan Technopark, and approximately 100 officials from related organizations and companies.
The ceremony will proceed in the following order: introduction of guests, business progress report, ribbon-cutting ceremony (completion of the hydrogen shipment center), and a tour of the hydrogen shipment center.
In March of this year, Capro relocated its headquarters to Ulsan and has been actively cooperating to help Ulsan become the center of the hydrogen industry, including leading the establishment of hydrogen pioneer city infrastructure in Ulsan.
In particular, with Capro establishing the largest hydrogen shipment center in Korea in Ulsan, the status of Ulsan as a hydrogen pioneer city is expected to be further solidified.
Mayor Kim Dukyum stated, "With the completion of the Capro hydrogen shipment center, we expect Ulsan's hydrogen supply network to be further strengthened," and added, "Since hydrogen supply forms the backbone of the 'hydrogen supply chain' that encompasses hydrogen production, storage, and utilization, I believe this marks another step forward in solidifying Ulsan's status as a hydrogen pioneer city."
Park Sungmyung, CEO of Capro, said, "Centered around the Capro Ulsan Plant, home to the largest hydrogen shipment center in Korea, we will strengthen the eco-friendly hydrogen supply chain and help Ulsan become a global hub for the hydrogen industry," and added, "We will also continue to support Ulsan's efforts to establish a hydrogen mobility cluster."
Capro decided to pursue the construction of the hydrogen shipment center after reviewing the business potential of hydrogen, for which it already had production capacity within its existing processes, in a situation where a new business restructuring was needed due to declining profitability in its existing caprolactam business.
The hydrogen shipment center was built within Capro Plant 3, which has been producing caprolactam, a raw material for nylon, and covers an area of approximately 16,500 square meters (5,000 pyeong).
The total project cost was 50 billion won, construction began in February, and the completion ceremony is being held today.
The hydrogen shipment center has a shipment capacity of 1.78 tons per hour, or about 43 tons per day. This is enough to charge approximately 8,500 Nexo hydrogen passenger vehicles in a single day, and enables stable supply to more than 400 hydrogen charging stations nationwide.
