On May 8 (Korean time), Kim shot a 1-over-par 72 in the first round of the PGA Tour OneFlight Myrtle Beach Classic (total prize money $4 million), held at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club (par 71) in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA. He recorded three birdies and four bogeys. Kim has been changing his physique and adjusting his swing this year. He explained that it is "part of the process to get better."

Mackenzie Hughes (Canada) surged to the lead with an 8-under-par 63, his lowest 18-hole score of the season. Hughes has not added another trophy since his second PGA Tour victory at the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship. Seamus Power (Ireland), Will Chandler (USA), and Thorbjorn Olesen (Denmark) are tied for second place at 7-under-par 64.
