Yoo Seungmin, President of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, will attend the General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for the first time since taking office.
The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee announced on May 9 that President Yoo will visit Kuwait City, Kuwait, where the 45th OCA General Assembly will be held from May 10 to 14. The OCA General Assembly will also be attended by Kirsty Coventry, who was elected as the new OCA President at the 144th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session on March 20, as well as IOC President Thomas Bach. Coventry will succeed Bach, who will retire on June 23, and will lead the IOC for the next eight years.
President Yoo is expected to reunite with President-elect Coventry and President Bach at the OCA General Assembly, about a month after their last meeting. On April 8, Yoo visited the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, and met with Coventry and Bach.
President Yoo has a long-standing relationship with the OCA. In March 2019, he was elected as the OCA Athletes' Relations Committee Chair and Executive Board member for a four-year term. After being elected President of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee on January 14, he voluntarily resigned from his position as Chair of the OCA International Relations Committee, and currently only retains his role as a member of the Coordination Committee for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
After his election as President, Yoo received congratulations from members of the OCA Executive Board and, at the invitation of the OCA, attended the opening ceremony of the 9th Harbin Asian Winter Games as President-elect on February 7.
