Bloomberg TV aired a special episode titled "South Korea Demographics" on May 3, focusing on South Korea's low birthrate issue and highlighting Seongnam City's policy as a representative case. Bloomberg TV introduced Mayor Shin as the "Mayor of Love." The broadcast also featured anchor Shery Ahn visiting Korea and conducting an interview with Mayor Shin.
In the interview, Mayor Shin emphasized, "City-level efforts are important to solve the low birthrate problem," and added, "Since many young people do not necessarily feel obligated to get married, I believe it is the role of the older generation, the political community, and local governments to create an environment where young people can naturally meet, fall in love, and marry."
The broadcast not only showed the actual "Solomon's Choice" event, but also included a touching scene of the third couple, Yoon Sumin and Kim Seola, who met through the program and actually got married, visiting Seongnam City Hall with their wedding invitation.
"Solomon's Choice" is not a simple matchmaking event but a flagship youth policy of Seongnam City that encourages young people to rediscover the value of family through sincere encounters. The program has been continuously featured by leading global media outlets such as The New York Times (NYT), BBC, Reuters, The Straits Times, and The Boston Globe.
Additionally, last October, Mayor Shin Sangjin became the first head of a Korean local government to be officially invited to "Bloomberg CityLab 2024" in Mexico City, where he introduced "Solomon's Choice" and participated in an international panel discussion, drawing significant attention.
Meanwhile, "Solomon's Choice" is scheduled to be held a total of eight times this year. In the first half of the year, four events will take place: on May 25 at Hello Audrey (Unjung-dong), on May 31 and June 1 at Gamsung Taco (Avenue France Pangyo), and on June 8 at Militopia Hotel (Wirye-dong).
Seongnam City plans to continue contributing to solving the low birthrate issue through youth-friendly policies in the future.
