TrendForce Report: OLED Monitor Shipments Surge 175% in Q1
ASUS and MSI from Taiwan Take 2nd and 3rd Place in Market Share
Samsung and LG Electronics See Market Share Decline

In the first quarter of this year, global shipments of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) monitors reached an all-time high, driven by the launch of new products from major set (finished product) manufacturers.

According to Taiwanese market research firm TrendForce on May 8, OLED monitor shipments in the first quarter of this year were estimated at approximately 507,000 units, up 175% compared to the same period last year.

TrendForce projected that in the second quarter, strong demand for 27-inch UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution models will push shipments up to 650,000 units, and that annual shipments will reach 2.58 million units, an 81% increase year-on-year.

OLED monitors are primarily used for gaming, broadcasting, and film production due to their advantages over liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors, including vivid picture quality, high refresh rates, and fast response times.

In the OLED monitor market in the first quarter of this year, Samsung Electronics ranked first with a market share of 22.4%, while Taiwanese companies increased their shares by expanding new sales channels and launching a variety of OLED models. During this period, ASUS of Taiwan secured second place with a market share of 21.6%, rising two spots from the same period last year (when its share was 10%). Notably, the gap with top-ranked Samsung Electronics narrowed to within 1 percentage point.

MSI of Taiwan also doubled its market share from 7% in the first quarter of last year to 14% in the first quarter of this year, ranking third.

LG Electronics and Dell fell to fourth (13%) and fifth (11%) place, respectively, as their market shares declined by 6 percentage points and 10 percentage points, respectively, during the same period, due to intensified competition from Taiwanese companies.

Meanwhile, as major set manufacturers, including those from Taiwan, expand their OLED monitor lineups and increase shipments, Samsung Display and LG Display, which supply OLED panels to global clients, are expected to benefit positively.
