The Korea Student Aid Foundation (Chairman Bae Byungil) announced on May 8, 2025, that it plans to select 1,200 recipients for the 2025 Blue Lighthouse Samsung Donation Scholarship and provide a total of 3.6 billion won in living expense scholarships.
The Blue Lighthouse Samsung Donation Scholarship is a program that provides living expense scholarships to university students from underprivileged backgrounds, using donations from Samsung received by the Ministry of Education, with the aim of reducing the polarization of educational opportunities.
Since 2014, the Korea Student Aid Foundation has been operating the Blue Lighthouse Samsung Donation Scholarship program, supporting a total of 26,000 university students with 36.4 billion won in scholarships to date.
As of the first semester of 2025, the Blue Lighthouse Samsung Donation Scholarship is available to university students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds, including students from families with disabilities, self-reliant youth, basic livelihood security recipients, and lower-income groups, whose student aid eligibility is in category 3 or below. Recipients are selected annually.
A key feature of the Blue Lighthouse Samsung Donation Scholarship is that, when selecting new recipients, each university is given autonomy to establish additional screening criteria beyond the student aid eligibility category, allowing them to reflect their own unique circumstances in the selection process.
Students selected as 2025 Blue Lighthouse Samsung Donation Scholars who achieve a first semester grade of at least 70 points (on a percentile scale) will be eligible to receive an additional 1.5 million won in living expense scholarships for the second semester of 2025.
The final selection results for the first semester of 2025 will be available on the Korea Student Aid Foundation website on May 12, 2025. The Blue Lighthouse Samsung Donation Scholarship will be awarded to students selected through 308 universities nationwide.
Meanwhile, starting next year, the Korea Student Aid Foundation plans to change the selection process for the existing Samsung Donation Scholars assigned to each university. The foundation will directly accept student applications and conduct its own screening to award scholarships. In addition, the foundation plans to continue expanding support for tuition and living expenses through various Blue Lighthouse donation scholarships, so that university students facing financial difficulties can pursue their dreams.
