Preventing Maritime Accidents Until October 31
Promoting a Culture of Water Leisure Safety
Mokpo Coast Guard Station (Chief Chae Sujun) is strengthening safety management for water leisure activities for six months until the end of October, in order to prevent maritime accidents and promote a culture of safety during the peak water leisure season.
According to Mokpo Coast Guard on May 8, a total of 99 water leisure accidents have occurred over the past three years, with 70 cases (70%) concentrated during the peak season from May to October.

In response, the Coast Guard is intensifying safety patrols in vulnerable areas, including major water leisure activity sites and accident-prone waters, and is conducting a campaign to encourage individuals to report their nearby activities.
Additionally, starting from June 21, the revision of the Water Leisure Safety Act will impose fines for operating non-motorized water leisure equipment under the influence of alcohol, with plans for guidance and enforcement. From July 14 to August 31, during the summer peak season, there will be a focused crackdown on the three major safety violations in water leisure activities: operating without a license, operating under the influence of alcohol, and failure to wear safety equipment.
In cooperation with Mokpo City, the Coast Guard also plans to conduct public awareness campaigns during events such as the Dancing Sea Fountain and Mokpo Marine W Show, making every effort to prevent accidents and spread a culture of safety.
A Mokpo Coast Guard official stated, "We ask everyone to strictly follow water leisure safety rules to prevent maritime accidents," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the public can enjoy water leisure activities with peace of mind by expanding a culture of safety."
