Discussing Innovation in Asia-Pacific Higher Education and AI Utilization
Collaboration and Response to Key Issues such as Climate Change, Healthcare, and Energy
Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) is set to provide an international platform for discussions on higher education innovation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Pusan National University will host the 'APEC University Leaders' Forum (AULF)' at the Jeju International Convention Center (ICC JEJU) from May 12 to 13.
This forum is an official affiliated event of the 2025 APEC Education Ministers' Meeting, jointly planned and operated by the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) and Pusan National University. Presidents from leading universities in the Asia-Pacific region, global corporations, and high-ranking government officials from various countries will participate to engage in in-depth discussions on the future of higher education utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).
The theme of this year's AULF is 'Leveraging AI in Higher Education to Address Asia-Pacific Challenges.' Key topics will include bridging the digital divide, building inclusive educational environments, ethical use of AI, and nurturing AI talent.
The event will consist of a total of five panel sessions and a keynote speech, covering the following programs: ▲Solving regional issues using AI ▲Changing roles of universities in the AI era ▲AI and ethics ▲Expanding access to knowledge ▲Responding to changes in future job markets.
On the first day of the forum, a joint session with the APEC Education Ministers' Meeting will be held to explore possibilities for policy collaboration.
During the event, Pusan National University plans to showcase strategies for modernizing traditional industries through AI integration, youth job creation models, and AI education programs for international students from developing countries. The university also intends to propose joint AI research projects in the fields of climate change, resource conservation, and healthcare.
Choi Jaewon, President of Pusan National University, stated, "Pusan National University became the sixth university in Korea to join APRU and has continued to collaborate with major universities in the Asia-Pacific region." He emphasized, "Through this AULF event, it will become a turning point for elevating not only the university's global standing but also the research capabilities of its members."
He added, "This will lay the foundation for leading global governance in higher education to prepare for a sustainable future."
