Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office Holds 'Environmental Experience' Program with Childcare Facilities

The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office conducted an environmental experience and education program with children from childcare facilities in Gwangju ahead of Children's Day.

On May 8, the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office held the "Neighborly Love Environmental e-Eum Program" for elementary school students from the "Notre Dame Brothers' Home" at the Mudeungsan Ecological Exploration Center in Gwangju. This event was organized as an environmental experience activity in collaboration with the local community to mark Family Month.

The participating children were paired one-on-one with staff members from the Environmental Office and took part in activities such as making mugs, creating otter keyrings, and receiving forest ecology education using nature-themed picture books. The program focused on helping children appreciate the value of nature in the era of climate crisis and naturally develop habits for environmental protection that can be practiced in everyday life.

This experience especially addressed topics such as reducing single-use products and promoting sustainable consumption and production, allowing children to directly experience "environmental practices in daily life."

Kim Youngwoo, head of the office, said, "We will continue to provide environmental education in partnership with the local community in the future."
