Wireless Subscribers Surpass 29.07 Million Lines
Operating Revenue Reaches 3.7481 Trillion Won, Up 4.8% Year-on-Year
LG Uplus achieved double-digit operating profit growth in the first quarter of this year. On May 8, LG Uplus announced that, on a consolidated basis, it recorded operating revenue of 3.7481 trillion won, service revenue of 2.9389 trillion won, and operating profit of 255.4 billion won in the first quarter of 2025. These figures represent increases of 4.8%, 1.6%, and 15.6%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
LG Uplus explained that the main factors behind the improved performance were the expansion of wireless and high-speed internet subscribers, growth in its AI-based B2B infrastructure business, and cost optimization. Marketing expenses increased by 1.6% year-on-year to 555.8 billion won, due to efforts to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) competitiveness and participation in the Mobile World Congress (MWC). Capital expenditure (CAPEX) was recorded at 333.1 billion won, a decrease of 13.4%.
First-quarter wireless business revenue reached 1.6121 trillion won, up 2.0% year-on-year. Service revenue, excluding interconnection revenue, grew by 2.4% to 1.5428 trillion won. The total number of wireless subscriptions, combining mobile network operator (MNO) and mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) lines, increased by 10.7% year-on-year to 29.075 million, marking double-digit growth for twelve consecutive quarters.
Notably, the number of 5G handset subscribers reached 8.196 million, a 14.0% year-on-year increase, accounting for 74.8% of all MNO handsets. The churn rate also remained stable at 1.09%.
MVNO lines increased by 21.7% to 8.562 million. The company is evaluated to have solidified its market leadership by enhancing convenience through the launch of the 'Al.care' service and the introduction of a self-activation feature for foreign customers.
Revenue from the smart home segment, which includes high-speed internet and IPTV, rose by 2.4% to 630.6 billion won. High-speed internet revenue increased by 6.9% to 296.5 billion won, driven by growth in high-value subscribers and the effect of premium plans, with the number of subscribers rising by 3.4% to 5.396 million.
However, IPTV revenue decreased by 1.2% to 330.1 billion won due to a decline in home shopping transmission revenue and lower VOD sales. The number of IPTV subscribers increased by 2.4% to 5.611 million.
Revenue from the enterprise infrastructure segment, which includes enterprise solutions, internet data centers (IDC), and enterprise lines, grew by 2.1% to 409.7 billion won. IDC revenue increased by 2.1% to 87.3 billion won, driven by the occupancy of client companies at the Pyeongchon 2 Center and the establishment of an AI-dedicated GPU infrastructure at the AIDC.
Solution business revenue rose by 0.4% to 118.9 billion won, with AI-driven digital transformation (AX) achievements contributing to growth. The enterprise internet and dedicated line business grew by 3.1% to 203.5 billion won.
Ye Myunghee, Executive Vice President and CFO/CRO of LG Uplus, stated, "We have achieved stable growth despite global uncertainties," and added, "We will enhance corporate value and shareholder interests by innovating customer experience through AI and securing future growth engines."
