Professor Suk was recognized for his outstanding research achievements in the field of perovskite solar cells.

The Humboldt Research Award is presented by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany to scholars who have achieved internationally distinguished research results. This year’s recipients will receive a prize of 80,000 euros.

Professor Suk is a pioneer in the field of high-efficiency perovskite solar cells. He developed the world’s first “metal-organic hybrid heterojunction solar cell using perovskite.” This technology became a key factor in enabling the production of high-efficiency perovskite solar cells.

To date, he has published more than 10 papers in leading journals such as Nature and Science. Notably, based on citation counts of his research papers, he has been named to Clarivate’s list of Highly Cited Researchers (the world’s top 1% of researchers) for six consecutive years since 2018.

Additionally, together with fellow professors, he founded Frontier Energy Solution (FES) to drive the commercialization of perovskite solar cells.

Recently, he collaborated with German researchers to develop a machine learning-based technology for improving the efficiency of perovskite solar cells, and published these results in Science.

Professor Suk stated, “With the prize money from the Humboldt Award, I am planning a research visit to Friedrich-Alexander University in Germany, where I have conducted joint research,” adding, “I hope this research will contribute to the advancement of next-generation energy technologies.”
