Immediately after she went missing, local search authorities organized a rescue team and began search operations. The head of the rescue team explained, "Although this area is a popular diving spot, the depth of the water is significant, so the initial search attempts failed." The woman's body was found at a depth of about 87 meters underwater. After several more diving attempts, the rescue team recovered the body and transported it to a nearby hospital. The police also recovered the woman's GoPro camera.
The camera contained footage of the woman's final moments as she struggled against strong underwater currents. Search authorities stated that they would not release the footage or any additional information until the family had been notified. Previously, on April 28, another Chinese tourist in his twenties climbed Mount Fuji in Japan and had to be rescued due to health problems. However, four days later, the man attempted to climb the mountain again, prompting another rescue operation. It was reported that he was trying to retrieve a mobile phone he had left on Mount Fuji.
