Daehan Shipping of SM Group Holds Plogging Event Near Sinchon Office

Supporting the Revitalization of Sinchon and Ewha
Through Community-Based Activities

Daehan Shipping, the shipping affiliate of SM Group, announced on May 8 that it recently held a 'Plogging Day' event near the SM Group Sinchon Building in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.

Plogging is a portmanteau of the Swedish word 'plocka upp,' meaning 'to pick up,' and the English word 'jogging.' It refers to a public activity in which participants walk or run together while collecting litter from their surroundings.

Daehan Shipping organized this event to support the practice of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management, which is emphasized by SM Group Chairman Woo Ohyun, and to contribute to the revitalization of the local community. Around 20 employees participated, collecting everyday waste such as cigarette butts for about two hours around the Sinchon Building, Sinchon Station, and Ewha Womans University Station. Daehan Shipping plans to operate Plogging Day as a year-round campaign.

Han Suhan, CEO of Daehan Shipping, stated, "I hope this Plogging Day event provided many employees with an opportunity to observe and engage with the local community around our office building," and added, "Going forward, we will continue to carry out various social contribution activities in which employees voluntarily participate, so that the Sinchon and Ewha areas where our office is located can become even cleaner and safer tourist destinations."

Meanwhile, Daehan Shipping established an ESG Committee under its board of directors in March to strengthen and advance its ESG capabilities. To ensure organizational independence and transparency, the committee is composed entirely of outside directors. It approves and implements the company's business plans related to ESG management, and oversees, supervises, and evaluates all related activities.
