New Generative AI Course Introduced
Seoul's Gangnam-gu is expanding its 'Senior Daily Life Digital Education' program to bridge the digital divide. The district will broaden the scope of practical, daily life-oriented training and newly introduce a curriculum on generative artificial intelligence (AI).
The hands-on training program is designed for residents aged 65 and older, allowing participants to directly experience and learn to use various digital devices and services in their daily lives. The program is offered at ten informatization classrooms within Gangnam-gu, as well as through on-site visiting education. All courses are free of charge.
Last year, a total of 415 people completed the program through 81 sessions. This year, the range of field experiences has been expanded. Previously, field trips were limited to cafes, but starting this year, the locations have been expanded to include movie theaters, restaurant table order systems, Daiso self-checkout counters, civil service kiosks at community centers, and unmanned banking devices. In addition, advanced courses are offered, covering topics such as smartphone basics, digital finance, mobile public services, health management apps, shopping apps, and content creation, to further enhance practical digital skills for daily life.
Starting this year, a new curriculum on generative artificial intelligence (AI) has been launched. Participants can learn to use the latest AI tools, such as ChatGPT, for video production and document creation. This course is open to various groups, including seniors, office workers, and startup employees.
In addition, the Daechi 2 Informatization Classroom and the Jagok IT Convergence Education Center offer a dedicated media training program for aspiring one-person media creators. The Jagok Center also provides hands-on programs in coding, drones, and 3D printing, which are based on Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies. Applications for the courses can be submitted from the 25th of each month via the district office website or the informatization classroom call center.
Gangnam-gu Mayor Cho Sungmyung stated, "We are continuously expanding effective informatization education to ensure that no generation, including seniors, is left behind," adding, "We will continue to do our best to establish Gangnam-gu as an inclusive smart city through resident-centered informatization education."
