Fifth Undergrounding Project Completed in Three Years
Seocho District Achieves 74.2% Undergrounding Rate
Seocho District in Seoul has recently completed the undergrounding project for utility poles along the entire 550-meter stretch of Seocho-daero 74-gil, a backstreet near Gangnam Station. As a result of this project, six utility poles have been removed, making this section a safer, pole-free street.
Over the past three years, Seocho District has successively completed undergrounding projects in Sapjunne Village in Yangjae-dong, Gangnam-daero, Gyeseong Elementary School, and Gyodae Station. This year, the district will begin additional projects in four areas: Yangjae Maljukgeori, the section near Nambu Terminal Station, and Hyoryeong-ro, among others. Thanks to these ongoing efforts, Seocho District's undergrounding rate has reached 74.2%, significantly surpassing the Seoul city average of 62.2%.
Seocho District Mayor Jeon Seongsu stated, "We will continue to pursue undergrounding projects to address long-standing wishes of our residents and to create a safer pedestrian environment."
