Mapo District Opens 'Wow Neighborhood Park Barefoot Loess Trail'

Mapo District Opens 'Wow Neighborhood Park Barefoot Loess Trail'

Park Kangsu, the mayor of Mapo District, attended the opening ceremony of the 'Wow Neighborhood Park Barefoot Loess Trail' held at Wow Neighborhood Park (Changjeon-dong 3-249) on the afternoon of May 7, 2025.

The 'Wow Neighborhood Park Barefoot Loess Trail' is a barefoot loess trail stretching along the foot of Wausan Mountain. With its tree shade, it is considered the most eco-friendly loess trail. The trail is more than 2 meters wide, allowing three or more people to walk together comfortably.

In particular, a 'Loess Ball Trail'?where bead-shaped loess balls are laid on top of the loess?has also been created, offering visitors both a unique experience and health benefits.

Thoughtful amenities for local residents are also notable. A foot-washing station has been installed near residential areas, while air guns have been set up in more distant spots to ensure a pleasant environment without nighttime noise.

Another feature is the installation of a 'loess storage box,' allowing residents to freely use loess whenever needed. This trail is managed jointly by the public and the district, operating as a self-regulated loess trail.

At the opening ceremony, Park Kangsu said, "I am still moved by last week's opening of the Barefoot Loess Trail at Tojeong Park, and I am delighted to join the opening of the Wow Neighborhood Park Barefoot Loess Trail as well," adding, "I hope that even for a short while, people can rest their tired bodies and minds from their busy daily lives on this loess trail."

Since 2024, Mapo District has actively promoted the 'Barefoot Loess Trail Construction Project,' and has built loess trails at a total of six locations so far: Dohwa-dong Shelter (Dohwa-dong 353-8), Tojeong Underpass, Seoyunbok Shelter (Daehyeong-dong 2-1), Bu-eong-i Neighborhood Park (Sangam-dong 879), Tojeong Park (Dohwa-dong 555-1), and Wow Neighborhood Park (Changjeon-dong 3-195). Currently, about 80% of loess trail users are women, indicating strong support from female visitors.
