The Department of Media, Video and Performance at Honam University recently announced on May 7 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation with the Jeonju International Film Festival, one of South Korea's leading film festivals.
The signing ceremony, held at the Jeonju International Film Festival office on May 3, was attended by Jeon Joonho and Min Sungwook, the festival's co-executive chairmen. Through this agreement, both institutions will continue to collaborate not only for the development of the domestic film industry, but also to enhance Honam University students' abilities in video content production and to expand their hands-on experience in the field.
Building on this agreement, Honam University and the Jeonju International Film Festival plan to implement a variety of cooperative programs in the future, contributing to the cultivation of young talent in video production and the advancement of the cultural content industry.
In particular, the combination of practical, field-oriented education for students in the Department of Media, Video and Performance and the Jeonju International Film Festival's extensive human and material networks is expected to create significant synergy for the development of the film industry.
Celebrating its 26th edition this year, the Jeonju International Film Festival has grown in stature with each passing year and has established itself as a world-class film festival featuring acclaimed works from around the globe. This year's festival showcased hundreds of carefully selected films from all over the world, attracting the attention of industry professionals and audiences alike.
At this year's festival, Honam University students participated in practical projects such as filming and producing archival content at the "Master Class" sessions, which featured renowned directors from Korea and abroad, including Bae Changho, a master of Korean cinema known for films such as "Whale Hunting" and "Hwang Jin Yi." These activities provided students with valuable on-site experience and opportunities to further develop their professional video production skills.
Lim Jinwon, a student who participated in the "Master Class Archiving" project, said, "I've always loved movies, but the actual film festival site was more dynamic and moving than I had imagined. I was overwhelmed by the vibrant atmosphere of the Jeonju International Film Festival, and I became convinced that I want to learn more deeply in this field."
