Jeonnam Province is launching the "Namdo Garden Walk" course in celebration of Jeonnam Visit Month in May, offering a journey through various gardens that capture the elegance and spirit of the southern region.

This initiative is being introduced for the first time this year to proactively usher in the era of garden tourism in Jeonnam, following the successful hosting of the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo and the growing interest and reputation of Namdo gardens.

To promote the Namdo Garden Walk, the Jeonnam tourism platform (JN TOUR) provides information on a variety of garden tour courses centered around local gardens, including regional gardens, private gardens, and traditional gardens.

Travelers can select themed garden courses they wish to explore, and the platform offers tailored information such as the characteristics of each garden and recommended travel routes that connect nearby gardens.

The courses were selected through over a year of preparation and field research by Jeonnam Province and the National Garden Culture Center, the nation's first dedicated garden institution, which is scheduled to open this fall.

There are a total of 19 courses: five "themed courses" such as traditional gardens and camping; thirteen "regional courses" focused on cities and counties with a high concentration of gardens, including Damyang, Gurye, and Haenam; and one "long-term course," a 4-night, 5-day itinerary that circles the major gardens of Namdo.

As a pilot project, the National Garden Culture Center will conduct a garden tour mainly for university students under the theme "Namdo Gardens: Connecting Breath and Scenery" to widely promote the traditional gardens of Namdo and foster future generations of gardeners.

Monthly Gardening, which operates specialized garden tour programs both domestically and internationally, plans to offer Namdo garden tour programs such as a 2-day, 1-night trip in the Damyang area, a 2-day, 1-night trip in the Haenam area, and a 2-day, 1-night trip in the Goheung area. Applications can be made on the Monthly Gardening website starting from the 8th.

Jeonnam Province is home to one national garden, two regional gardens, thirty private gardens, and three traditional gardens. Along with the National Garden Culture Center, it is considered the birthplace of gardens and is an ideal destination for garden tourism.

Park Jongpil, Director of the Environment and Forest Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, "In Europe, where garden culture has been established over a long period, garden-centered tourism is thriving. If you are dreaming of a garden trip for your own healing, I recommend a journey to the lush Namdo gardens in May."
