Inauguration Ceremony for Guui 2-dong and Gwangjang-dong Safety Council Held on May 2
Appointment Letters Presented and Capacity-Building Training Conducted
Proactive Response to Local Safety Risks, Including Disaster-Prone Area Monitoring and Improvement of Everyday Safety in Various Fields
Gwangjin District (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) held the inauguration ceremony for the "Guui 2-dong & Gwangjang-dong Safety Council" at the Gwangjin District Civil Defense Center on May 2, officially launching tailored local safety improvement activities.
The district was selected for the second consecutive year for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "Eup-Myeon-Dong Smart Safety Service Improvement Model Development Support Project." As a result, it has formed and is operating local safety councils with strengthened disaster safety management functions.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, and about 40 members of the safety council. The event included the presentation of appointment letters, an explanation of the 2025 project, and capacity-building training for council members. The training focused on hands-on safety education through practical exercises such as fire suppression, CPR, and earthquake simulations, aiming to enhance practical response capabilities in disaster situations.
The safety council is chaired by the head of each dong and consists of about 20 residents, including tongjang and members of the disaster prevention team, who are well-acquainted with local conditions. The council is expected to play a proactive role in addressing local safety risks, including: ▲preemptive inspection and monitoring of disaster-prone areas by season, ▲identification and management of disaster-vulnerable households, and ▲implementation of safety improvement projects in areas such as fire, crime, and traffic safety.
Last year, the district operated safety councils in three dongs?Junggok 4-dong, Guui 2-dong, and Gwangjang-dong?with a total of 235 participants, thereby strengthening local safety management functions. Notable best practices included Junggok 4-dong's task force for inspecting old signboards in preparation for typhoons and its disaster insurance promotion team, Guui 2-dong's maintenance of disaster-prone areas adjacent to Achasan, and Gwangjang-dong's expansion of visible fire extinguisher installations. These examples were shared as models for building community-centered safety management systems.
Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, said, "I would like to thank the safety council members for setting an example for the local community in ensuring the safety of Gwangjin District, and I ask for your continued active participation. Going forward, we will do our utmost to make Gwangjin District a safe place for residents by prioritizing their safety above all else and protecting them from various disasters."
