"Pocheon-Cheorwon Expressway Must Pass Feasibility Study and Begin Construction Early"

Cheorwon County, County Council, and Women's Association Submit Petition to Gangwon Governor on May 7

On May 7, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced that, in order to pass the preliminary feasibility study and expedite the commencement of the Pocheon-Cheorwon Expressway project connecting Pocheon in Gyeonggi Province and Cheorwon in Gangwon Province, a petition was submitted to Governor Kim Jin-tae on behalf of Cheorwon residents by the Cheorwon County Governor, the Chairperson of the Cheorwon County Council, the President of the Cheorwon County Village Leaders Association, the Chairperson of the Cheorwon County Women's Association, and the President of the Cheorwon County Sports Council.

On the 7th, Cheorwon County in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province submitted a petition to Governor Kim Jin-tae to pass the preliminary feasibility study and expedite the construction of the Pocheon-Cheorwon Expressway project connecting Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, and Cheorwon, Gangwon Province. The meeting, presided over by Governor Kim, was attended by Cheorwon County Governor Lee Hyunjong, Cheorwon County Council Chairperson Han Jongmun, and the Director of the Gangwon Provincial Construction and Transportation Bureau, among others. During the meeting, Cheorwon County delivered its petition for the passage of the preliminary feasibility study and early construction of the Pocheon-Cheorwon Expressway, and Gangwon Province discussed its active support for these efforts.

The Pocheon-Cheorwon Expressway construction project is a national strategic project included in the Second Expressway Construction Plan (2021-2025), and is considered the final piece of the 'South-North Axis No. 4 Expressway' directly linking the Seoul metropolitan area with the border region.

On this day, Cheorwon County Governor Lee Hyunjong stated, "The Pocheon-Cheorwon Expressway construction project, a long-cherished goal that Cheorwon County and its residents have been preparing for over several years, has finally been selected as a target for the preliminary feasibility study and is now on track." He added, "We will do our utmost to ensure the project passes the preliminary feasibility study and begins construction as soon as possible."
