KIND President Kim Bokhwan Meets Uzbek President to Discuss Local Development Projects

The Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND) announced that on May 1, President Kim Bokhwan met with Uzbek President Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev to discuss ways to expand local infrastructure investment and development projects.

This meeting was held as a follow-up procedure after Incheon International Airport Corporation was selected as the preferred bidder for the Urgench Airport project in Uzbekistan last month. KIND stated that it will provide financial support for this project to help Incheon International Airport Corporation finalize the contract and successfully carry out the project.

KIND conveyed to the president and other high-ranking government officials its commitment to pursue a variety of development projects in Uzbekistan. These include new airports being promoted as public-private partnership (PPP) investment and development projects such as Urgench Airport, the construction and supply of trains for the Tashkent-Samarkand high-speed railway, and the Tashkent Bio Cluster urban development project. Uzbekistan, in line with its national development strategy, has designated 17 PPP priority projects in key infrastructure sectors to be implemented by 2026 and 33 projects by 2030, all set by presidential decree.

Kim stated, "With Uzbekistan's high economic growth rate and the president's leadership in infrastructure improvement, the Uzbek infrastructure market will present significant opportunities for our companies," adding, "We will play a more active role by expanding financial support and KIND's development project functions so that our companies can actively pursue local infrastructure and urban development projects."
