Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) has launched a focused safety inspection of all urban railway facilities to ensure public safety and strengthen trust, marking the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Busan Urban Railway.
This inspection began on April 21 and will continue for approximately 40 days until May 31. It covers a total of 28 locations across 10 categories, with a focus on multi-use facilities. The inspection targets include major stations, congested stations, stations near event venues, and transfer stations connecting with other modes of transportation. Core facilities essential for train operations and urban railway construction sites are also included in the inspection.
The corporation has specifically selected facilities that have been in use for a long time since the opening and are now aging, as well as those with high safety concerns, as key inspection items. An integrated inspection team, which includes 11 external experts from organizations such as Daegu Transportation Corporation and Korea Railroad Corporation, is conducting detailed inspections in cooperation with Busan Transportation Corporation.
Specifically, the inspection covers three locations with aging concerns such as substation and catenary facilities, 16 multi-use facilities including congested and transfer stations, seven core facilities essential for train operations such as signaling, communications, and rolling stock, and two vulnerable points for natural disasters.
The use of advanced equipment is also notable. The corporation is actively utilizing diagnostic devices for electrical equipment such as thermal imaging cameras and corona detectors, as well as escalator tension meters, speedometers, ground penetrating radar (GPR), and endoscopic cameras. This enables thorough inspections even in areas that are difficult to check with the naked eye or standard equipment. Through these efforts, the corporation aims to minimize blind spots in inspections and enhance both precision and reliability.
Lee Byungjin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, stated, "In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the urban railway opening, we are meticulously inspecting all facilities once again. We will proactively identify and promptly address risk factors to create an urban railway system that is safer and more trustworthy for citizens."
