Yuseong District in Daejeon Extends "Pope Francis Road" Honorary Designation for 5 More Years Signboard for Pope Francis / Yuseong District, Daejeon

The honorary road designation for "Pope Francis Road" in Yuseong District, Daejeon, has been extended for another five years.

On May 7, Yuseong District announced that it recently held an Address Information Committee meeting and decided to extend the honorary road. The decision was made to commemorate Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21, and to carry on his spirit of service and unity.

In 2015, Yuseong District designated a 717-meter stretch of road between Daejeon World Cup Stadium and Noeun Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market as "Pope Francis Road" to commemorate Pope Francis's visit to Daejeon in 2014.

This road was used as an honorary road for five years starting from June 29, 2015. After one extension in 2020, the designation is currently set to be maintained until June 2025.

Jung Yongrae, head of Yuseong District, stated, "We decided to extend the honorary road again to carry on the spirit of service and unity demonstrated by Pope Francis," adding, "We will strive to spread the life and spirit of the Pope throughout the local community."

Meanwhile, inside Gate 1 of the west entrance to the World Cup Stadium, there is "Pope Francis Park" and a commemorative statue depicting Pope Francis kneeling and kissing the top of a person's foot.
