[Poll Poll News] Lee Jaemyung Maintains Overwhelming Lead Despite Supreme Court Remand

Support for Lee Jaemyung Remains Above 50% Even After Supreme Court Ruling on the Public Official Election Act
Han Deoksoo Slightly Leads in Unification Talks with Kim Moonsu

Even after the Supreme Court's remand ruling on the Public Official Election Act, Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, continues to receive support from nearly half of the public, according to a recent poll.

According to a poll released on May 7 by Rushich & Research (commissioned by Dong-A Ilbo, conducted on May 4-5 through mobile phone interviews with 1,013 adults aged 18 and over nationwide, with a response rate of 10% and a margin of error of ±3.1% at the 95% confidence level), Lee Jaemyung received support rates close to 50% in all hypothetical three-way matchups that assumed the unification of Kim Moonsu, the People Power Party candidate, and Han Deoksoo, the independent preliminary candidate, with Lee Junseok, the Reform Party candidate, also included.

In a hypothetical three-way race with Kim Moonsu (29.1%) and Lee Junseok (7.4%), Lee Jaemyung received 49.7% support. In another hypothetical three-way race with Han Deoksoo (30.8%) and Lee Junseok (6.1%), Lee Jaemyung led with 49.8%. Even if either Kim or Han were to successfully unify the opposition, Lee Jaemyung would still lead by 20.6 percentage points and 19.0 percentage points, respectively.

Aside from Lee Jaemyung's strong lead, another notable finding is that Han Deoksoo only slightly outperformed Kim Moonsu in terms of competitiveness in the three-way race. Recently, there has been a surge in calls within the People Power Party for unification around Han Deoksoo, but the difference in competitiveness between the candidates (1.6 percentage points) was not significant.

This trend is consistent with other polls conducted by Korea Research Center (commissioned by MBC), MetaVoice (commissioned by JTBC), and Gallup (commissioned by JoongAng Ilbo). Lee Jaemyung maintained a double-digit lead over the second-place candidate, while Han Deoksoo showed a roughly 3 percentage point advantage in competitiveness over Kim Moonsu in hypothetical three-way matchups.
