Integration of City and Provincial Support Programs
Implementation Begins in July
Starting in July, Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province will expand its transportation fare support program for children and adolescents. By integrating the existing city and Gyeonggi Province support programs, the city will provide up to 720,000 won per year to those aged 6 to 18.
On May 7, Siheung City announced that it will launch the 'Siheung Pass+' program from July 1, which will integrate and expand transportation fare support for children and adolescents.
Until now, transportation fare support programs for children and adolescents had been operated separately as the city's 'Siheung-type Basic Transportation Fare Support Program for Children and Adolescents' for those aged 7 to 18, and the province's 'Gyeonggi-do Youth Transportation Fare Support Program' for those aged 6 to 18.
The city is integrating the two programs, which have similar target groups and operational methods, in order to improve administrative efficiency, enhance convenience for citizens, and strengthen the effectiveness of the support. With this integrated operation, children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 will receive 60,000 won per quarter (240,000 won per year) from Gyeonggi Province, and those aged 11 to 18 will receive an additional 120,000 won per quarter (480,000 won per year) from the city, for a maximum annual transportation fare support of 720,000 won.
The city has signed an agreement with the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation to lay the foundation for integrated operation, and will also operate a dedicated call center to minimize inconvenience for citizens. The application process has also been simplified, so that instead of registering separately for each program and card, applicants can now register once and receive support from both Gyeonggi Province and Siheung City simultaneously.
To use the integrated service, both new applicants and those who have previously used the Siheung-type Basic Transportation Fare Support Program must apply through the 'Gyeonggi-do Transportation Fare Support' website. Detailed information can be found on the 'Siheung-type Basic Transportation Fare Support' and 'Gyeonggi-do Transportation Fare Support' websites.
Choi Gakyong, head of Siheung City's Public Transportation Division, said, "Through the integrated system and professional management, we will reduce the transportation fare burden on children and adolescents."
