The Special Recognition Award is an honor presented by SID to experts who have contributed to the advancement of display technology and the industry. This year, a total of nine individuals, including Vice President Lee, were selected as recipients. On May 7, SID stated that Jonghyuk Lee was chosen for his contributions to the development and commercialization of premium OLED technology, as well as the commercialization of quantum dot organic light-emitting diode (QD-OLED) displays.

Vice President Lee, who has expertise across the entire spectrum of OLED technology, has led the commercialization of premium OLED products by developing high-efficiency device structures and thin-film encapsulation materials and process technologies for flexible OLEDs. In 2018, he served as the overall leader and development head of the QD commercialization project, spearheading the development of QD-OLED products with high color purity and securing 8.5-generation large inkjet printing technology with enhanced process stability. Subsequently, in 2021, Samsung Display succeeded in mass-producing QD-OLED displays for the first time in the world.
