Opening at Magok Eoullim Park and the Gungsan Area
Gangseo-gu, Seoul will hold the 9th Gyeomjae Cultural Arts Festival on May 10 at Magok Eoullim Park and the Gungsan area. This festival honors the artistic spirit of Gyeomjae Jeong Seon, a master of true-view landscape painting, and is a signature spring event in Gangseo-gu where local residents, artists, and youth from various generations come together.
This year’s slogan is “The Scent of Gyeomjae, Coloring Gangseo,” and the festival will feature a variety of events to enjoy spring in Gangseo, including the 20th Gyeomjae National Drawing Contest, Gyeomjae Cultural Busking, outdoor exhibitions, hands-on programs, and an art market.
Starting at 10 a.m., the nationwide drawing contest will be held for kindergarteners, elementary, middle, and high school students. Participants can register online, by phone, in person, or on-site until May 9. At 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., there will be a “Following in Gyeomjae’s Footsteps: Gungsan Exploration” stamp tour led by guides around the Gungsan area. From 1 p.m., the outdoor stage at Magok Eoullim Park will host a series of busking performances spanning various genres, including bubble shows, dance, and singing.
Throughout the festival grounds, there will be diverse outdoor exhibitions such as the Gyeomjae Poetry and Painting Exhibition, displays of winning entries from the drawing contest, and a poetry and painting exhibition of prize-winning works from the writing contest. Hands-on programs will include making spring flower crowns, traditional games, and face painting. Additional events will feature an art market, food trucks, photo zones, trying on scholar costumes, and a social media photo event, among others.
In addition, the Gyeomjae Jeong Seon Art Museum will host a special exhibition commemorating its 16th anniversary, titled “Ah! Geumgangsan, Beautiful for Countless Ages,” which will run until June 25.
Jin Kyohoon, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, stated, “The Gyeomjae Cultural Arts Festival is a participatory cultural arts festival created by everyone together. I hope it will be a precious opportunity for the whole family to enjoy diverse culture and art, heal their bodies and minds worn out by daily life, and share the inspiration of art.”
