Ulsan City Completes Blueprint for Munsu Baseball Stadium Expansion and Youth Hostel Construction

Construction of Youth Hostel Accommodating Around 300 People at Munsu Baseball Stadium
Expansion of Spectator Seating by 6,000... Increasing Total Capacity to Around 18,000 Seats

The blueprint for the Munsu Baseball Stadium Youth Hostel, an accommodation facility to be built at Munsu Baseball Stadium in Ulsan, has been completed approximately ten months after the architectural planning service began in June of last year.

Ulsan City Completes Blueprint for Munsu Baseball Stadium Expansion and Youth Hostel Construction Basic Plan for Expansion of Ulsan Munsu Baseball Stadium Seating and Creation of Youth Hostel.

In November of last year, the city lifted development restrictions on an area totaling 930,000 square meters to enable more efficient use of Ulsan Sports Park facilities and to change land use designations.

Alongside this, the city has been promoting the construction of a youth hostel at Munsu Baseball Stadium within Ulsan Sports Park to provide amenities such as training and accommodation for youth athletes, and to attract various sports competitions and serve as a training camp.

According to the current construction plan, the youth hostel will have a total floor area of 10,176 square meters, with four above-ground floors and 82 guest rooms, accommodating up to approximately 300 people.

The first and second floors will feature convenience facilities such as seminar rooms, a cafe, and a restaurant, while the third and fourth floors will house guest rooms.

The guest rooms will be arranged so that one side overlooks the park and the other side faces the baseball stadium across a corridor. The rooms facing the stadium can also serve as exclusive viewing areas (skyboxes) during games, allowing guests to enjoy both accommodation and game viewing simultaneously.

The rooftop will feature an open-air swimming pool (infinity pool) and a rooftop deck, providing visitors with a variety of experiential spaces.

In addition, the seating capacity of Munsu Baseball Stadium will be expanded by approximately 6,000 seats, increasing from the existing 12,068 seats to a final total of around 18,000 seats. This includes 4,100 additional infield seats and 1,900 additional outfield seats.

The expanded infield seating will consist of 2,600 seats along the first base line, 1,000 seats along the third base line, 250 exclusive viewing seats (skyboxes), and 250 royal and special cheering seats (Exciting Zone).

Ulsan City plans to hold a design competition for the expansion of the stadium seating and the creation of the youth hostel in the second half of this year, with the goal of completing the youth hostel by December 2027.

Ulsan is considered an optimal location for hosting various competitions and off-season training camps due to its mild winter weather and well-equipped sports facilities. However, the city has consistently faced challenges due to a lack of accommodation during nationwide sporting events.

Therefore, the construction of the Munsu Baseball Stadium Youth Hostel is expected to significantly strengthen the city's accommodation infrastructure by supporting group training for youth athletes and attracting domestic and international sports training camps, while also contributing to Ulsan's development as a tourism destination where visitors can stay for extended periods.

In particular, on the afternoon of May 7 at 3:00 p.m., Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom will visit Munsu Baseball Stadium, which is pioneering the creation of the nation's first 'youth hostel within a baseball stadium,' to inspect the stadium facilities.

On this occasion, Mayor Kim is expected to state, "With the creation of the youth hostel, we aim to not only resolve the accommodation shortage for athletic teams but also transform Munsu Baseball Stadium into a space frequently visited by citizens, youth athletes, and tourists."

While carrying out this architectural planning service, Ulsan City received direct technical advice from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) on four occasions and reflected this feedback in the construction plan. The city also plans to maintain close discussions with the KBO throughout the design and construction process.
