Damyang County in South Jeolla Province announced on May 6 that the 24th Damyang Bamboo Festival, held over five days from May 2 at Juknokwon and around Gwanbangjerim, concluded successfully, captivating visitors from around the world.
This year's festival, themed "Damyang, Immersed in Green," established itself as a family-oriented event for all generations by presenting unique content that blended ecology, tradition, and culture.
In particular, the participation of many international influencers and foreign students in the opening ceremony and major programs demonstrated the festival's potential to become a global event beyond a local celebration. Nighttime attractions such as "Bamboo Wish Lanterns" were set up throughout Juknokwon, the festival grounds, and Gwanbangjerim, enhancing the appeal of the area as a destination for extended stays. Juknokwon extended its opening hours until 9 p.m., and as many as 20,000 people visited in a single day, resulting in large crowds throughout the festival period.
Additionally, admission tickets for Juknokwon and Metaland were converted into redeemable coupons that could be used at nearby shops, contributing to increased sales for local small businesses and earning high satisfaction from residents.
In the food sector, creative content stood out. The local food hall promoted the excellence of Damyang Hanwoo beef, and a new menu contest featuring bamboo shoots selected five original dishes, including "Perilla Cream Bamboo Shoot Dumplings," captivating visitors' palates and showcasing both the versatility of bamboo shoots and the potential for the development of local food culture.
The festival also featured a wide array of performances and hands-on events. Stages featuring popular singers such as Lee Chanwon, Kim Kyungho Band, Kim Taeyeon, and Hwang Garam, along with local artists, received enthusiastic responses from the audience. Family visitors were especially drawn by events such as the "Bebepin" performance for Children's Day, the Dambit Youth Dance Festival, and a drone experience program.
In addition, on-site guerrilla events such as "Great Luck Jackpot Challenge" and "Beat the Panda" were held throughout the festival grounds, offering visitors small delights and prizes.
County Governor Jung Chulwon stated, "This year's Bamboo Festival was a meaningful occasion to showcase Damyang's ecological, traditional, and cultural values to the world," and emphasized, "We will continue to develop this event into a world-class festival, loved by both domestic and international visitors, by highlighting Damyang's unique appeal."
